I love the idea of using pigments to create an intense eye makeup look but what puts me off is the messiness of it and my fear of dropping it on the floor, I mean that will be the day my husband says "thats it no makeup for you"! I would have happily used my pigments if only there wasn't much mess created so I decided to look into pressing my pigments. I actually went ahead and tested it out with one of my nyx loose pearl eyeshadows which is a similar concept to pigments and it worked really well which lead to doing a tutorial for you guys. I will jump straight into the tutorial starting off with what you will need etc. Just to let you know it can get super messy pressing your own pigments but it's fun to see the result so enjoy doing this guys.
What you will need
- Empty eyeshadow palette with removable pans - I got mine from ebay for £5
- Rubbing alcohol - mine is 70% but the higher the percentage the quicker it will dry
- Thin cotton cloth - I cut mine up so it's easier and when it gets too messy I can throw it away
- Towel / kitchen town - I used a towel I don't use anymore
- A 10p coin or one that fits into the eyeshadow pan
- Cotton bud - you must remove the wool part of it
- A little spoon - I didn't use one but it would have been easier
- Pigments or loose eyeshadow - I used loose eyeshadow
Lets get started..
Step 1
Add a little but little of the pigment/loose eyeshadow into the empty eyeshadow pan until it's half full.
Step 2
I poured rubbing alcohol into the lid and dripped little by little into the eyeshadow pan where I have already put the loose eyeshadow in.
Step 3
I mix the rubbing alcohol and loose eyeshadow together using a cotton bud with the wool removed. I remove the wool so that no product is being soaked up by it.
Step 4
Once mixed I can see how full it is and if it isn't which in this case it isn't then I go ahead and add a little more eyeshadow. It shouldn't be too watery.
Step 5
After mixing it I leave the mixture aside for about 25 minutes so that the water can be soaked up by the loose eyeshadow and the loose eyeshadow is settling.
Step 6
After the 25 minute is up I then get my small piece of thin cotton fabric and place it on top of the eyeshadow pan and directly above it I place my 10p which fits nicely into the pan. I press really hard at this point so that the rubbing alcohol is all out.
Step 7
Once I feel that enough pressing has been done and no more liquid will come out then I remove the fabric away from the eyeshadow pan and it should look like this. I then leave it to dry overnight.
And walaa.. I have here a palette of 15 NYX loose eyeshadows. Look at how amazing it looks and I have already used it and it's amazing how easy it is compared to how it was when it was in a loose form. Hope this little tutorial helps you guys out.
