Hi guys. I thought it would be a good idea to share how I clean my brushes and what I use to get my brushes cleaned. I would first like to put this out to you guys for your own good. Always clean your brushes as often as you can! It's simple really and self expanatory and don't feel lazy to do so. One of my biggest change in bettering my skin was getting my brushes cleaned as often as I can so my rule now is using one brush 3 times max! I try not to use it 3 times, mainly twice but I allow myself 3 uses and it's a good rule to follow by as each time you use your brush you're carrying grime with it and reapplying that grime which is not very hygienic at all. It all just leads to nasty breakouts which is not needed right1?
Rant over.. Below each image I will be explaining what I do and what I use to clean my brushes so here goes.
Rant over.. Below each image I will be explaining what I do and what I use to clean my brushes so here goes.
Step 1
I begin by getting a large jug and fill that with 1 and a half inches of warm water. I do not use hot or cold water, I use them both mixed to make it just warm. I then add a little bit of Johnson's baby shampoo to that water in the jug and give it a swirl. I put in all my brushes facing down and the water should just be covering the bristles and not the brush handle. If the water touches the brush handle it will weaken the glue that holds the bristles together so in time the bristles will start falling out which of course non of us want. I leave my brushes in the jug for an hour or so to soak in and get some excess dirt out.
Step 2
For this step I use this oven glove.. OVEN GLOVE? Yes oven glove. So it's a silicone oven glove and a very similar concept to the very expensive sigma spa brush cleaning glove. You purchase the Sigma cleaning mat for around £30 but this oven glove you can get your hands on for a good £3! What a difference and believe it or not, it's the best time saver item I have bought. I don't do youtube videos otherwise I would 100% show you just how good this thing gets my brushes cleaned. Before this I used to just swirl my brushes on the palm of my hand and what a headache it used to be. Guys £3 is next to nothing for something that is super efficient. I shall leave a link here for you (Click here). For this step all I do is pour a tiny amount of the Johnson's baby shampoo onto the glove. I don't wear my glove so I just lye it down on the sink because my sink shape is square but if your sink shape is round you could just pop the glove on as well.
I get one of my brushes and just swirl it around till the shampo foams up really well and I can visually see the brown stuff is off my brushes. The raised silicone helps to take off the dirt.
Step 3
Step 4
I then rise my brush under warm water until all the shampoo is out of my brush. I always do this step really well but incase there is any remainder I don't get too worried as I use baby shampoo so I know it won't effect my skin. I carry on doing this with all my brushes.
Once the brush cleaning is complete I lay a clean towel on top of my bed, I then lay all my brushes. When I lay my brushes I like to straighten the bristles so that when they dry the shape isn't all weird or such. I then fold my towel from the top then bottom, then I roll away and leave it on top of my central heating and let it dry. I don't actually dry it with my central heating on but I like to just leave it there.
